Friday, 31. August 2012 20:15 hours Free Entrance Open-air on the Burgplatz |
The provincial government of North-Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) has been organizing a regular summer classical concert for decades. This time the concert will for the first time take place in the open air at a public location: the Burgplatz in Düsseldorf will see the première of a new concept by which many citizens will have the chance to enjoy a first-class classical evening. Admission is free!
To this end the summer concert this year will for the first time be mounted as a public event available to all free of charge through a co-operation of Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf-Duisburg, the provincial capital Düsseldorf and WDR, the West German broadcasting corporation. In the future the venue of the summer concerts will alternate between various regions and cities of NRW.
The programme is to feature the best arias and duets from favourite operas which will include everything from Donizetti's "Elisir" through Verdi's "Macbeth" or Puccini's "Gianni Schicchi" to Bizet's "Pearl Fishers". North Rhine-Westphalia offers one of the most concentrated cultural areas in the world - here twelve opera houses are at home. To demonstrate this variety, the soloists of this unique evening come to the capital from various theatres - you may look forward to Wen Wei Zhang (Theater Dortmund), Olga Mykytenko (Aalto Musiktheater Essen), Jaclyn Bermudez (Theater Hagen) and from Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg itself Morenike Fadayomi, Anett Fritsch, Maria Kataeva, Brigitta Kele, Nataliya Kovalova, Hans-Peter König, Dmitri Vargin, Boris Statsenko and Corby Welch. Returning to his native Rhine as a special guest will be the world-famous Düsseldorf-born Wagner tenor Peter Seiffert. The musical direction of the evening will be in the hands of Generalmusikdirektor Axel Kober, compère is Götz Alsmann. The summer concert will be recorded live by WDR television and broadcast at 22:45 on 1 September 2012.
